Julienas Wins 2012 Wyong Cup – Race Results

September 7th, 2012

Today’s Wyong Cup 2012 was won by race favourite Julienas at Wyong Racecourse today September 7, 2012.

Julienas just pipped second place runner Gazza Guru at the post to win the $150,000 Wyong Cup.

He was paying odds of $2.60 to win the race at bookmaker.com.au.

The Cape Cross gelding has placed in his two prior Australian starts and today’s race start marked his first win since arriving in the country from the United Kingdom.

Julienas has now won four of his 14 race starts and has earned more than $170,000 in prize money.

He is now qualified for a Melbourne Cup 2012 run and will be aimed towards the race by trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Hometown favourite Gazza Guru was unlucky to finish second in the 2012 Wyong Cup after being disappointed for a run down the final straight.

The eight-year-old appeared the fastest finisher in the race, however, was unable to find a run when his path was blocked by Kelinni and Julienas.

Jockey Brenton Avdulla initially requested to look at the videos before making the decision not to protest against Julienas.

The defeat came as a blow to trainer Stephen Farley, who was sure his horse could take home the title prior to the race.

Gazza Guru has won seven of his 70 race starts and has earned more than $325,000 in prize money.

Storm Burst finished third in the 2012 Wyong Cup, while Kelinni placed in fourth.
