The Chris Waller-trained Junoob remains an outright $4.60 favourite in 2016 Wyong Gold Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Sacred Master ($5.50) and Loophole ($6).

Will Junoob justify favouritism and win the 2016 Wyong Cup, or will one of his classy rivals post an upset?

Orbec ($6.50)

Orbec stormed onto the Australian racing scene during the 2015 edition of the Spring Carnival and is undoubtedly up to the class of winning the 2016 Wyong Cup of Friday. Running second in the Merrylands RSL Club BM95 (1800m) upon appearing in 2015, Orbec progressed to minor placings in each of the Wyong Cup and Group 3 Newcastle Cup (2300m) before finishing fourth in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) most notably. Sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for second in the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m) on August 13th, the Le Havre gelding will jump from the ideal barrier 3 with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.

Sacred Master ($5.50)

Kiwi import Sacred Master is yet to figure in two Australian starts, but is sure to have taken benefit from the hit-outs and is arguably offered his best chance to date of returning to winning form in the Wyong Cup 2016. Posting six wins and a further three minors through only fifteen career starts so far, Sacred Master won each of the Redoubts Matamata BM85 (2000m) and Group 2 Avondale Cup (2400m) before finishing third in the Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m) in autumn this year. Hugh Bowman will take the ride on Sacred Master from barrier 9 in the Wyong Cup.

Alegria ($6.50)

Alegria has been a strong and consistent performer for Godolphin throughout her entire racing career and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current 2016 Wyong Cup odds. Running fifth in the Group 3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) in early January, Alegria progressed to second in a Randwick minor over 1600m before running third in the Group 3 Aspiration Handicap (1600m). placing fourth in the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) and second in the Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m), the daughter of Medaglia D’oro clearly required a run when ninth in the Listed Winter Challenge on July 30th but is sure to relish a step up in distance on Friday.
